On the 3rd April, the Department for Education published a new digital strategy document to support education providers and the technology in their drive to make the best purposeful use of education technology.

This document lays out twelve areas of focus and also launches a list of key challenges that they wish to address. Although not groundbreaking in it’s vision, the document does at least offer a direction of travel, highlighting the following areas:-

  • Securing the digital infrastructure
  • Developing digital capability and skills
  • Promoting effective procurement
  • Promoting digital safety
  • Clear vision and sector leadership
  • A vibrant market for EdTech products and services
  • Building business environment

It’s ‘challenges’ for the education sector are as follows:-

  • Reducing the burden of ‘non-teaching’ tasks
  • Making assessment more effective and efficient
  • Supporting access, inclusion and improved educational outcomes for all
  • Supporting decisions about work or further study and helping those who are not in the formal education system gain new skills
