Cranleigh School Governor, Alison Lye (pictured), writes about her pride in the work and reach of the Cranleigh Foundation.

Having been a Governor for almost 12 years I have been fortunate enough to have had regular opportunities to witness the wonderful Cranleigh School community in action. A community which at its core thrives on its values of Cranleigh Being, Cranleigh Thinking and Cranleigh Giving. These values help foster an environment in which each pupil can achieve their potential with confidence, whilst also pausing to think of the wider world around them and what each of them can do to give something back to it.

The Cranleigh Foundation has always had the concept of Cranleigh Giving and generosity at its very heart, but perhaps now more so than ever. Its current campaign is to raise £10 million by 2029 to fund ten Cranleigh School Foundationers in perpetuity. In so doing, the Foundation will be able to extend this wonderful opportunity to be part of the Cranleigh School community to many more young people who have suffered trauma or tragedy in their lives.

Cranleigh gave me a second home and relieved my Mum from stress which arguably could have let her survive longer, something I will always be grateful for. Cranleigh provided the support I needed through her illness and after her death…. This, combined, has meant the world to me to be a Foundationer as it gave my family and me support, opportunities and care I would not have otherwise received. – Past Foundationer

An education which has given them the confidence and self-belief to succeed in life well beyond their time at school. Foundationers’ carers also speak of how the close partnership they form with staff at Cranleigh gives them respite, confident in the knowledge that their child is thriving, safe and happy.

It didn’t just support my child, I felt supported too and I am eternally grateful. – Foundationer’s guardian

It is exciting that the Foundation is aiming to grow its reach and expand the number of pupils who will get the opportunity to experience a Cranleigh School education, an education that goes some distance beyond the classroom and builds the framework within which a young person who has suffered adversity can thrive.
