Our ethos is to give pupils:
the insight to recognise their privilege and to shape the future culture of the world through lives of service and leadership
Here at Cranleigh we are acutely conscious of the advantages Cranleighans enjoy, and for this reason, we wish to share the benefits of a Cranleigh education with those children for whom such an opportunity, through no fault of their own, would not be possible. We offer Foundationer places as part of our wish to widen access and to offer life-transforming opportunities to children from disadvantaged backgrounds as well as means-tested bursaries to those children who have excelled in their admissions assessments but whose families cannot afford the fees.
The Cranleigh Foundation funds places for children who have suffered trauma, such as losing the support of one or both parents through exceptional or tragic circumstances. Foundationer places are for children who have a significant pastoral need and would benefit from our nurturing boarding environment.
The Foundation is a fund which, over the coming decades, will build to a substantial endowment to support bursaries to provide a Cranleigh education for Foundationer pupils.
The Foundation stepped in to help my daughter at what was a very difficult time in her life. She realises how lucky she is and that without their support, and the School’s, she would not have succeeded as she has done.

The need
Instability in a child’s life is damaging; one of the most critical factors influencing educational attainment and later life outcomes is placement stability and, associated with this, consistency and stability in schooling.
Boarding School Partnerships 2020
Children affected by trauma, vulnerable and disadvantaged children need a secure, stable and compassionate environment with constant wrap around pastoral care to combat their personal setbacks alongside the challenges of adolescence. The pandemic has exacerbated their situation bringing further uncertainty and hardship to their families.
